If you’re looking to stay at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge and want to add a little outdoor Georgia adventure to your plate, then Dahlonega is the pace to go. These attractions are highly recommended by our staff as some of the places to go in Georgia.
Dahlonega sits on top of the some of the largest gold deposits found east of the Mississippi River. In fact, their Dahlonega Courthouse Gold Museum is made from locally sourced brick that has trace amounts of gold. This historic building now holds the Gold Rush History of the state of Georgia and is well worth the 30 minute drive the from the lodge. We even offer our own package!
With such a rich history in the early Gold Rush, there’s no surprise that Dahlonega holds their own festival to commemorate the occasion. Taking place the third week in October, we encourage you add this on to our Amicalola Falls vacation activities.
The quaint downtown atmosphere of Dahlonega provides the best back drop for local tourist shops. From gift shops and art galleries to clothing boutiques and sweets shops, Downtown Dahlonega is a favorite Atlanta tourist attraction – especially during the holidays.
